In a world where dwarves rule an underground empire, three young orphans - Eden, Anya, and Faras - live in the small town of Iridur. As a human struggling to earn respect, Eden passes his mapper exam only to have his achievement overshadowed by a black dragon attacking the town's farm and his friend Anya facing an unjust trial for defying their abusive supervisor, Yorrek. After Eden's mentor helps acquit Anya, Yorrek plots revenge, and the three friends are forced to flee their hometown.

During their journey through dangerous tunnels beneath the mountains, they discover dark fairies, ghost towns, and learn about the empire's history, before finally reaching Empire City, the magnificent dwarven capital. But their new lives unravel quickly when Faras disappears and riots erupt.

As imperial oppression intensifies, Eden and Anya escape the capital and venture deeper into the heart of the mountains where they find a hidden rebel city and reunite with the now radicalized Faras. When the emperor discovers and attacks the city with his legions, Anya forms a desperate pact to summon monsters against the invaders.

The novel's scope is completed through flashbacks that reveal the life of Aleena, a human dragon rider, sucked into a destructive cycle of revenge, showing the devastating effects of single person's decisions on subsequent generations.

A tale of friendship, Eden's Rise explores themes of identity, of leadership, and of the corruption of power.
